Days like this are the reason we love being a Scottish alternative wedding photographer. On a crisp Saturday in Glasgow last Spring, Kelly and Richie showed us THE perfect example of a DIY wedding. Jam-packed with styling inspo and personal touches, whilst being one of the most relaxed days ever.

Pollokshields Burgh Hall is tucked away in a leafy suburb in the Southside of Glasgow. It’s a Victorian beauty of a building with stunning, stained-glass windows throughout. It is also the ideal blank canvas to flex your creative muscles. When we arrived that morning, everyone was mucking in to get the place looking amazing (including the bride and groom!) while Julie of ‘A Curious Arrangement‘ was busily creating some floral magic in the background.

Kelly and Richie decided to have a first look and a wee wander together pre-ceremony. This gave them loads more time with friends and family later in the day, genius! Kelly looked awesome in her Phase Eight dress, complimented by her mum’s vintage leather jacket (complete with original pins!) and the best bridal shoes we’ve ever seen! It was a joy to capture some tender moments before the wedding day mayhem truly kicked off. We also bumped into their lovely humanist David Smith at the nearby train station – I think for a moment he thought they were trying to flee the scene. They honestly weren’t…

The ceremony kicked off with the bridal squad entering to ‘Here Come The Girls’. Kelly then made her grand entrance with both her father and stepfather walking her down the aisle. As the day went on, we learned more about this wonderful couple. We heard emotional stories from friends and family that just made us swoon over them even more. We couldn’t help but steal Kelly and Richie to capture some final precious moments alone after dinner.

After joining in with a suitably wild dance floor, it was time for us to say goodnight. We left with our heads full of inspiration for our own big day which was only 4 weeks away (Martyna decided to paint her nails black after seeing Kelly’s!) These two made friends, family and fun the priority on their wedding day. Something that all other couples should keep in mind during the mayhem that is the planning process! Kelly and Richie: you guys nailed it.
