With the 2019 season about to get into full swing, we’ve been reflecting on some of our favourite moments from the past year. We were so lucky to have been part of lots of Isle of Skye wedding photography stories in 2018, but Steph and Alex’s magical Fairy Glen elopement back in March is one that we keep coming back to.
The Isle of Skye features some of the most stunning and diverse landscape anywhere in Europe, and it’s somewhere we never get tired of exploring for elopements and weddings. With its ever-changing colour palette and unpredictable weather conditions (to say the least!) it’s a place that is impossible to tire of as photographers.
Steph and Alex travelled all the way from California to tie the knot on the Misty Isle, with their respective siblings Mike and Mariah on hand to be part of this Highland celebration. Steph had created a bouquet of wild flowers foraged from the surrounding area and looked incredible in her vintage, long sleeve dress; while Alex’s super-stylish tweed jacket/jumper combo was complimented perfectly by a tie hand-knitted by his bride-t0-be.
After a chilled morning, we headed for the otherworldly surroundings of the Fairy Glen. The weather had been calm and mild until halfway through the intimate and emotional ceremony, when a flash blizzard of snow and hail added a dramatic edge to proceedings! Once we gingerly descended back down the hobbit-like hills of the glen, Steph and Alex took some time to exchange letters written to them by each other’s family – a tender moment that was made even more poignant by a very sweet, curious robin who sat right next to the newlyweds for the entire time they read these messages from across the pond. Steph later told us that she’d felt the presence of her grandparents in the robin’s visit – there was definitely ‘something’ about that wee guy! (See how many photos you can spot him sneaking his way into!)
A quick stop-off for tea and scones later, and it was back on the road to visit a couple of our favourite spots in the North of the island before the sun began to set on this adventure. It was tough to say goodbye to these guys, but we’re so honoured that we got to play a tiny part in such an amazing day and have kept in touch ever since. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for these two and wish them nothing but happiness and lots more adventures!
