There are moments in our job when time seems to stand still; when you know you are witnessing something incredible that will stay with you for years to come. Never has this been more true than during Hannah and Mike’s emotional wedding on the Isle of Skye back in September.
After sharing a great evening with Hannah and Mike during the Edinburgh festival the previous week, by the time we joined up with them and their small band of family and friends in Elgol on the morning of the wedding, it felt like we’d known these two for years.
With Skye offering up its customary weather of ‘four seasons in the space of ten minutes’, Mike had to be extra patient when waiting to see his beautiful bride for the first time. As the rain eased off and Hannah finally approached Mike with a gentle tap on the shoulder, we realised just what a perfect day this was promising to be… The weather started to clear as we hopped on a boat to Loch Coruisk, with the jagged peaks of the Cuillin rising from the clouds as we approached.
From the moment Sonja’s chimes signalled its beginning, this ceremony was quite simply one of the most beautiful and emotional that we’ve ever witnessed. It was deeply personal yet spiritual, dramatic yet intimate; the passion with which Mike read his vows to Hannah was absolutely overwhelming, reducing everyone to tears in the process.
After the ceremony, we travelled back across the water to Elgol, before whisking our newlyweds off to explore some of our favourite spots on the island. With the sun setting, we joined up with the rest of the wedding party for an amazing dinner at Coruisk House. As we sat listening to some truly heartfelt and poignant speeches, we felt so honoured to be part of such a special day with this incredible family.
Amazing things happen on this crazy little island, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for us on Skye in 2017.
